BRIGHTLANDS WINS THE ALL ASIA BOURNVITA
QUIZ CHAMPIONSHIP ………ONCE AGAIN ! |
Brightlands School, Dehra Dun emerged winners of the prestigious
All Asia Bournvita Quiz Contest, the Finals of which were held
in Kolkata and telecast on September 11, 2005.
The winning team, comprising Manotapa Bhowmik, class IX and
Akshay Kumar Sharma, class VIII was invincible and was declared
overall winners by reputed quiz master Derek O Brien.
It is a matter of significance that the School is among the
select four schools nation wide who have bagged the Champions
Trophy of the All Asia Bournvita Quiz Contest twice in the
history of the BQC. The first euphoric victory of the school was
in 2001.
The Preliminary Written Round of the All Asia Bournvita Quiz
Contest, 2005 held in November 2004, saw over 4000 schools from
all over Asia contesting for the most coveted quiz trophy. The
Brightlands team was one among the 64 select teams to have made
it to the tele shoot Quarter Final Round, at Kolkata. The
Brightlands team tackled Timpany School, Vizag and Sharada
Mandir, Panjim at the Quarter Finals and emerged clear winners,
thus qualifying for the Semi Final Round. They endorsed their
position at the Semi Finals, defeating St. Mary’s, Mumbai and
Sacred Heart, Ludhiana. A nail-biting finish ensured their entry
into the Finals.
At the Finals the enthused team contested Sacred Heart Convent,
Jamshedpur and Utpal Sanghvi, Mumbai. Manotapa brimming with
confidence in the Debate Round, Akshay’s sheer genius, matched
with his exceptional instinct, their unbelievable alacrity in
the Mathematics Round, their exemplary team work and their
unwavering focus were all ingredients of sure success. A lead of
11 points in Round I and a 5:1 lead in Round II sealed the
contest with a historic win.
The two students have won an enviable 4-night stay in Cairo. A
cruise down the Nile, exploring the land of Pyramids and Papyrus
is their reward for this admirable achievement. Besides this
well deserved trip to Egypt, the team received lots of gifts and
goodies from Cadbury India Ltd. The school as a gesture of
appreciation and encouragement has awarded a year’s scholarship
to both the students.
Paving the way to this momentous victory, Brightlands recently
won the ONGC Golden Jubilee Quiz, held on August 7, 2005 at Tel
Bhavan, Dehra Dun. The quiz, conducted by ace quizmaster
Siddharth Basu, saw the Brightlanders outshine 40 top schools
from all over India, including The Doon School, St. Joseph’s
Academy and RIMC. Manotapa and Akshay were a part of this four
member team, the other two being Suryadeep Seal, Class X and
Prerna Mishra, Class IX. Each of the team members was awarded a
Hewlett Packard laptop, a musical rig, a Trophy and a
Certificate.
